Gear Talk
One of the most popular topics among photographers is gear, so I'm going to dedicate this entry to that topic. Let me start by saying that gear doesn't make photographs; people do. Excellent photographers can generally create good photos even even they don't have top-of-the-line equipment. Bad ones have a hard time taking good photos with any kind of equipment. It's about the vision more than the equipment.
That being said, good equipment in the right hands can make the task of image creation much easier. I currently have two systems that I use for different tasks. I have a Nikon 35mm system that I use for candid portraits, personal photos (i.e. vacation snapshots), and other things like sports that require a high level of camera mobility. I also have a Mamiya RB system that I use for my fine art work and formal portraits.
Here is what currently makes up my Nikon system:
- F100 Body
- 50mm Nikkor AF-D Lens
- 75-150mm Nikon Series E Lens
- SB-800 Flash
- SC-17 Synch Cord
- Stroboframe Camera Flip Bracket
- Bogen 3021 Tripod with 3047 Head
And the Mamiya outfit looks like this:
- Mamiya RB Body
- Mamiya 127mm KL/L Lens
- Mamiya 180mm Sekor C Lens
- Minolta Auto Meter IV
- Bogen 3021 Tripod with 3047 Head
- Nikon body plus 75-150 lens used as a spot meter
- LowePro NatureTrekker AW Backpack
